*Rumor* One last Wii secret revealed around launch time?

FROM GAMEPRO:

Q:

I recently went into a GameStop store to see if they had a Wii Kiosk and pick up the new Splinter Cell. While I was in there, I began to discuss the Wii system with the manager of the store. He explained Nintendo recently held a GameStop Managers kind of meet and greet for the Wii, with Reggie present. He also said Reggie announced their is still one more big secret left on the Wii, which will be revealed around launch. I called another store and the manager there said Reggie did in fact say such a thing. My question is have you heard any of this? Do you have any speculation as to what it may be? I have heard it is potentially a graphics solution or a camera attachment.

A:

Wow, you're up on your stuff. I can confirm that there was a GameStop retreat and Reggie did in fact say there will be another big Wii revelation around launch time.
As to what I think this new announcement might be? I have no idea. However, I'd think it would most likely be specs related (since Nintendo is still hush-hush about what the Wii actually incorporates). My second theory is that the revelation will be about Wii's online capabilities.

That was taken from the GamePro question and answer section on the Wii. Will there be one last secret before launch? If so, what could it be? I remember that video of Matt C. from IGN Wii interviewing Perrin Kaplan about the Wii and she said that there will be one more announcement close to launch. She said it wouldn't be "huge" but she pointed at the screen and said "your guys (Hardcore fan) will be excited about it." That may well be final specs and all the inner workings of the Wii, or a surprise game announcement. I think it will be the Wii itself though because Perrin keeps referring to the Wii as a "Ferrari under the hood," so maybe we'll find out why......

Should be a good announcement regardless.

Disaster: Day of Crisis info

"Survive nature’s most devastating catastrophes in Disaster: Day of Crisis, a panic-inducing survival game for Wii. In a devastatingly short period of time, an unprecedented wave of natural disasters has pummeled the United States. On top of this inexplicable series of disasters, a rogue special forces unit has taken advantage of the chaos and seized a nuclear weapon. Only Ray, a former member of an elite rescue task force, has decided to take a stand."

•Cutting-edge physics and gripping visuals re-create the sheer terror of major catastrophes.

•Players race a car down a mountain to escape a roaring pyroclastic flow, dodge toppling buildings during a devastating earthquake and swim for their lives in a raging flood. No matter what happens, fight to survive.

Cutting-edge physics? I thought the Wii was low tech? (rolls eyes)

More Zelda spoilers and new pics

Google Translation:

"Link, transformed into wolf, can climb on high wallsYou must use button A in order to jump of branch in branch in the wood of Ordon, in the shape of Link-WolfTwilight World seizes the life of the alive creatures and transforms them into another thingThe people absorptive in Twilight World are actually still present in their place of origin but we do not see themIn order to see them, it will be necessary to use the directions of Link-Wolf for thus revealing them, and also to find objects secret.Link-wolf can travel in Twilight World AND the real world. This capacity will be resolved only at the time of a special search.

Midna cannot live in the real world, but you can call upon his spirit so that this one helps you in the real world. The part where Link-Wolf is controlled was not opened with the press. Nintendo wants to still maintain a secrecy concerning this part of the playUntil now, nobody apart from the employees from Nintendo could played only one second in Twilight World."

*Warning* Zelda Spoilers Below

*BELOW IS EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS UP UNTIL THE FIRST DUNGEON*

Items:Before the first dungeon, you will have: learned combat and horse riding, aquired a fishing rod and caught fish, got a slingshot, a lantern, and a "horseshoe-shaped reed" that calls Epona, and "bird shapped reeds" that call hawks to your arm, that you can throw at bees' nests or monkeys.

Story:You rescue a couple of children and a monkey from moblins in the woods. Link's on his way to Hyrule to deliver a sword and shield. But shit, Moblins on boars attack, abducting "Colin" and Ilia, and Link gets dragged in to the Twilight, at which point he transforms in to a wolf. He wakes up chained in the ruins of Hyrule Castle, and Midna helps him escape.

With Midna on Wolf Link, you can attack multiple enemies at once with a circular energy around Link, kinda like the spin attack, which you have to do cos the enemies in the Twilight Realm often revive their dead buddies. Wolf Link then goes to meet Zelda, who can tell from the blue eyes that he's actually Hyrule's Savior! He then goes to the non-Twilight village, still as a wolf. People are scared of Wolf Link, but he can talk to animals. He then saves the nearly-Twilight Faron Woods by hunting down shadow insects and collecting the tears of light they've consumed, restoring Light Spirits, AKA Great Fairies. The Light Spirit then makes Link human again. You're then on your way to the first dungeon.

Music: Oh, and apparently the soundtrack sounds as good as anything in Zelda before now, with the Twilight Realm music being "synthy".

Sounds like this is going to be an extremely long game! I didn't really know you turned into the wolf so soon either. Can't wait to play this game very, very soon!

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers update

GS: Can you tell us a little about the DS and the Wii Final Fantasy Chronicles projects?

AK: "We'll have a release coming out for the Crystal Chronicles for the Wii soon, but in the mean time, of course Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for the GameCube was kind of an experiment in multi-player gaming for the Final Fantasy series and the version of the game we're working on for the Wii is again looking to provide a game experience that we haven't been able to in the past in the series, something approaching a real-time kind of gaming."

"Real-time kind of gaming"

Any thoughts on what that could mean? Tell me what you think.

New Suda 51 interview on Heroes

GI: Will you use the nunchuck's motion detecting at all?

Suda 51: Maybe a little bit. It’s still in progress.

GI: What weapons will Travis have at his disposal?

Suda 51: The light saber and only the light saber.

GI: Huh. Well you probably can’t call it a light saber. (laughs)

Suda: Beam Katana. (laughs)

GI: Yeah, George Lucas won’t mind Beam Katana. (laughs)

Suda 51: Maybe LucasArts cannot look at it and maybe people can be quiet about it. (laughs)

GI: So Travis is trying to go from number 10 to 1. Will it be just boss battle to boss battle to boss battle or will there be an underlying story through out the game?

Suda 51: There will be a small storyline. The game takes place in Santa Destroy, a small town on the East Coast of America. The player will be able to move freely in the town and there will be main missions and sub missions. There will be smaller enemies between the boss fights.

GI: Anything you’re thinking about for Wii Connect 24?

Suda 51: I want to do something, but I haven’t thought about it to seriously.

GI: With the beam katana, how many different moves do you have planned?

Suda 51: If you’re moving your arm around, your arm is going to get tired, so we want to have quick cuts so you can slice in one cut. We will have different types of slashes and special moves.

GI: Have you played Red Steel, and what did you think of it?

Suda 51: I have. We think it’s using a lot of the Wii controller’s potential. It’s a rival title, but so far there’s not a lot of titles like this on Wii. We want Red Steel to succeed.

Click here for the rest of the interview

Keep in mind that those graphics are running on the Wii hardware and are not CG. Art style has a lot to do with how good or "cool" games look. Realistic games all look pretty much the same- you got the bloom, you got the S3 texturing and high polygon counts and of course Shader Model 3. Heroes looks awesome and doesn't have any of that(except bloom) and looks unrealistic. Fantasy graphics can look better than realistic graphics if done right. I think this game is a good example of just that.

Zelda pics from Fusion Tour

Less than a month to go and we will be seeing the entire game, not fishing, not the first village-the whole darn thing. That water looks mighty fine.....
How excited are you for this game?

Ever since the pre-orders for the Wii, there really has not been very much news to report. Sure there have been some screen shots and previews, but nothing really worth posting. This just goes to show that the Wii is right around the corner and everyone is just waiting for it. One thing is for sure, the hype for the Wii just gets bigger and bigger and I haven't even seen an American commercial for it yet!

Even Gamespot says Red Steel shows promise

"That said, the overall look of the game, while arguably less important on the Wii than on the other next-gen consoles, has also been polished some more. Certainly some of the textures have become smoother since E3, and the overall style of the game--including the highlighted edges of characters and the standout green borders of enemy weapon drops--seems to sit better now.

Our play test lasted for about an hour in all, and it gave us the opportunity to get a feel for how the Wii controller fits in to the game. One thing that's for sure is that the coordination required won't necessarily come easy, especially when you're combining looking and moving with zooming in, shooting, crouching, and reloading--all simultaneously using both hands with several kinds of motion.

That said, we certainly found that we paid more attention to what was going on than we would have had we been playing the game with a normal control pad, and the result was an absorbing experience that left us wanting to play more. We managed to build up a sweat while playing, and with not much longer to go now, we'll have a full preview of the game in the near future."

I say "even Gamespot" because they are a bunch of guys (if you watch their video reviews) that show no emotion at all towards games. It didn't sound like they were super excited about Red Steel, but them saying that they were left wanting to play more was good enough for me. Gamespot is "too" unbiased for my tastes.

Good news if you missed a Wii pre-order at Gamestop

"There have been a lot of posts lately about people being discouraged because they were unable to preorder a Wii from their local Gamestop or EB Games. Some have gone so far as to give up on ever finding a Wii on launch day. Well, I'm here to give some hope.

According to Yahoo there are currently 3,600 EB Game and Gamestop stores in the U.S. (source: http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/videogames). Reading people's post, it appears that each store is averaging about 15 preorders (some may do more, some may do less). So if we take the number of stores (3,600) and times it by the number of preorders (15) that equals only 54,000 units have been accounted for."

Link

I would think that Toys R Us and Walmart are going to get a huge bulk of the rest of the Wii's on launch day. You may be able to walk in without camping out to get one. There will be 1 million Wii's on launch day in North America, so 1 million minus 54,000 is.......946,000. Thats still a lot on day one.

Gamestop offically taking Wii pre-orders Friday credit goes to Game On for leaking it BEFORE anyone! *Updated with Gamestop e-mail*

Above is the email sent to all Gamestop stores

"100% CONFIRMED WITH PROOF ON THE WAY

I made a trip out to the mall to see what was up with these EB Games/GameStop preorders. Now I can finally put an end to all these rumors. It is 100% official, both outlets will be taking Wii reserves starting Friday, October 13th. I am out posting this from the mall right now actually!

I have the confirmation email from my local GameStop store in my hands right now to prove that this is really happening. I will scan it as soon as I get home. Trust me guys, this is completely true. Expect the scan of the company email within the hour."

Friday the 13th is supposed to be a day of bad luck, but it turns out that its going to be a great day to pre-order the Wii. I will be there at 10am Friday, will you?

In Red Steel, it's possible to run around with any combination of gun and swords, from 2 swords to a gun and a sword simultaneously."

Link

Yet more info to sink our swords into! Seems like this game has become a no-brainer for Wii launch games. Zelda is THE game no doubt but Red Steel has quickly become the second game.

Red Steel shaping up really well says ONM

Controls have been vastly improved, due to three aspects. Final build Wiimote, refined sensor bar (most likely the one we saw last week at the Nintendo World Store), and Ubisoft’s time spent tweaking the game.

Gesture towards defeated enemies to tell them where to go.

Some aspects of the game are still a secret.

Graphics are simply amazing. Forget everything you have seen from all the Red Steel videos up until now. Unbelievably smooth character animations, night time dojo level is gorgeous, rain and lighting storm is very well done, compared to RE4’s village area, but more impressive.

One portion of the game has you escaping a burning dojo that features ” the best fire effects we’ve ever seen”.

Version of the game played was 16:9 widescreen 480p at 60 frames per second.

Link

What? Amazing graphics from a Wii game? Well I have to say that I can't wait to see the final build of Red Steel. I've made up my mind, as of today I'm going to reserve my copy of Red Steel this Friday. Anyone else?

Stores getting ready for the Wii!

Link for more pics and details

Controller gloves? The black one looks kinda neat but I would rather buy more games or the classic controller. Its nice to see CompUSA(I'm pretty sure that is the store shown) is getting ready for the Wii launch, and it goes to show how much better Nintendo is prepared than Sony at this point.

Gamestop taking Wii pre-orders very soon?

“As for pre-order instructions, for sure the Wii will be available for pre-order at our stores. Pre-order materials and documentation has already been distributed across the United States, and contain everything that we need to be prepared for. This includes awaiting how many Wii units we’re going to have available at launch [for each store], and promotional strategies with placement of advertising material.”

When asked when these Wii pre-orders would finally take place:

“The Wii will be available for pre-order in about 1-2 weeks. This means putting your money down to reserve the system. It will be totally dependant on stores if they require a game pre-order at the same time as pre-ordering a Wii, but yeah - 1-2 weeks. We’re just awaiting the accurate launch quantity numbers. And no, as of now, the PS3 will not be taking in-store pre-orders.”

Link

We are hearing many rumblings of when the pre-orders for the Wii will take place and this is the latest one. The report is saying however that this rumor is the truth this time and I have to say that it better be, because I think all of us are getting anxious to put our money down on this highly anticipated console. Will we really be able to pre-order the Wii in 1-2 weeks? Or will it be sooner or later? Looks like sometime "soon" is the only clear answer.
