Vigil Games: "Wii U is a Next Generation platform"

In a new interview with Jeremy Greiner, Creative Manager at Vigil Games, more interesting comments were made on the Wii U and it's potential with Darksiders II:

“If I didn’t have a strict gag order on me, I’d love to talk about all the great features that we have,” Jeremy tells us, “but what I can tell you is that it’s a next generation platform, and you should keep your eyes open.

“We’ll obviously be using the unique controller that it has to its utmost potential, but speaking to specific features or tech effects… well, that’s in Nintendo’s playground right now. And I know that they have plans for E3.”
So here we have another developer calling the Wii U a next generation system, not on par or the same as current HD systems. What has my attention is the last two sentences of the interview, it's been a very along time that Nintendo actually talked tech specs/features at E3. The Nintendo 64 was probably the last time that Nintendo released a monster console so far advanced of the competition that tech talk was begged to be discussed.
Also if you look at Nintendo's  already planned E3 agenda , you'll see that a developer discussion with the Wii U's hardware producer is going to take place in the late evening after the E3 press conference and this will most likely consist of all the tech talk everyone has been waiting to hear
These hints are nice, but it will be best when Nintendo shows everything on their own terms at E3.

Interesting enough; Genyo Takeda isn't the one producing the hardware; it's the creator of Animal Crossing. Interesting.

Considering his resume and the fact that you can draw on the touch screen of the Wii U; I wonder if Nintendo is prepping for a rebirth of the 64DD title Mario Artist (which is a sequel to Mario Paint)? Hmmmmm....

Anon: Never mind that N64 was hamstrung by using fast speed but low size carts and that compression sucked back then. Same with Gamecube to a lesser extent. Never mind that developers felt that they got burned by Nintendo content policies which would work back in the 1980's when the industry was very fragile, and were now a joke when the ESRB came out. Although Nintendo did win back some developers for a while during the Gamecube era; it wasn't enough to stem the decline.

As for Vigil's statements: So Vigil has admitted that NDA's are in place for everyone working on Wii U (too bad a few of them were broken before they were supposed to); and several months ago when people complained that developers were betting against the Wii U and I talked about NDA's being in effect; I had everyone telling me how stupid I was. "Oh; you're an idiot. No hardware developer would EVER let NDA's go that long." Well; who's the idiot now?

Maybe the fact is that Nintendo at E3 2011 blew it's wad by releasing a huge chunk of information, showed the controller and console and some games in development (like Darksiders 2) that allowed Nintendo to keep quiet for a year.

The graphics war is over. The WiiU will be running full HD 1080p, I'm content. It's the other capabilities / specifications, that I'm sure Nintendo will differentiate their console from MS & Sony. I think that's why we're not hearing about a "graphics" leap from sources. Better Physics, efficient
processing speed, Interactivity/gameplay, Artificial Intelligence, DSP sound chip, streaming, etc., will be the next frontier. Factors not as obvious as a prettier or photorealistic presentation, but will dramatically affect gameplay.
