Pilotwings Resort : My hands-on impressions

Pilotwings Resort was on display at my local Best Buy yesterday so I decided to head on down and give it a try on the 3DS.

The game is just what you'd expect from Pilotwings; going through rings, balloons and obstacles for points. The control is excellent on the analog slider, I was worried at first that it would feel too different from a regular analog stick but it might actually feel better....

Now on to the 3D effect. Does it work? Absolutely it does. It works so good in fact that I had to turn the effect to about the half way part of the 3D slider. It is amazing how much depth it adds to the game and it really feels like you are in the world presented to you. 3D is a novelty of course and if the game wasn't fun it wouldn't be notable that the game is simply in 3D.

I was also watching closely at how other people walking by the store and trying out the 3DS for the first time were reacting. I heard a lot of: "Oh I'm definitely getting this" or "I've got to have this, when does it come out?" To say that the 3DS will probably sell really good is going to most likely be an understatement. I can't wait to see those opening week sales!!!

I played at my Best Buy last night too and I was very impressed...again. I'm still not convinced Pilot Wings Resort will be a worthy purchase with the apparent lack of content, I was burned at the DS launch by the great, and very short, Yoshi Touch & Go and I don't want it to happen again. Not to mention there are zero 3DS features aside from 3D in the game.

For a "content" company they sure didn't provide a lot of content in this game.
