*Speculation* Resident Evil 5 and more RE Remakes coming to the Wii?

"According to an interview with Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles producer, Masachika Kawata, with AMN affiliate site Jeux-France, and kindly translated by NeoGAF member Dascu, there is a possibility that we will be seeing more Resident Evil remakes on Wii. From the sound of things, Kawata has expressed interest in remaking one of (or, all of) the first three titles for Wii; using the Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition style gameplay (and, assumedly, engine). Also confirmed was that Umbrella Chronicles will not feature online co-op.

When questioned why Resident Evil 5 was not currently in development for Wii, Kawata revealed that RE:UC and RE4: Wii Edition will be tests to gauge how well the series can perform on Wii.

In addition, Kawata and his team working on Umbrella Chronicles are still looking into how they can exploit the Wii remote functionalities and/or Nunchuck for the title. He states that it will be more than just a simple on-rails light-gun game. And, as we already know, Umbrella Chronicles is said to tie up loose ends in the Resident Evil storyline. Regarding which titles will be featured in Umbrella Chronicles, only the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 3 were mentioned; no word on if Resident Evil 2 will also make an appearance. Additionally, there are no current plans for any Resident Evil titles for the PSP. However, Masachika Kawata and other veteran staff members would like to continue the Dino Crisis series; unfortunately, nothing is planned at the moment.

Finally, the interview with Kawata revealed that more information regarding Resident Evil 5 will be shown soon. Ladies and gentlemen, start your speculation. We’ll have more on all of the above when it’s available."

This is an interesting article because usually when a developer is asked if they are bringing one of their Next-Gen projects to Wii, they say no because the Wii is either not powerful enough or not for their audience. Kawata did not say any of that, but said that RE4 and UC will be the test to see if the series can sell on the Wii. RE4 is off to a great start so far, I don't see why Resident Evil 5 should not come to the Wii if those games sell well. Capcom can easily use a modifed RE4 engine for the game and make it look similar to the Xbox 36o/PS3 versions; it won't look as good but if you can imagine RE4 with better textures, more polygons and better lighting then I'm sure Resident Evil 5 could look great on the Wii.

As far as remaking RE1-3 with RE4 gameplay, I'm excited; but I would rather play RE2 and RE3 remade than RE1 since we all have played that game a ton in the past 11 years. More as it breaks.

I would rather have a totally original Resident Evil title than a potentially bad port of Resident Evil 5. I'm not saying Capcom will totally screw it up, but after seeing so many bad ports, I've been getting cynical.

I don't know what the exact plot and details are for Resident Evil 5, but I heard they're bringing back zombies. But this time, they're runners, similar to the ones from 28 Days Later and the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. Plus, where the hell is Resident Evil 5, anyway? I haven't heard any news about since it was announced.

Anyway, for the original Resident Evil Wii game, I hope they can continue to explore more about the parasites from Resident Evil 4. I find them to be just about as interesting as zombies, or perhaps more interesting than them. I like to see what type of variations can they spawn, and can they be evolved any further?

Resident Evil 4 seemed almost like a side story to the Umbrella Corp. Wessker was behind Ada's part in the story and the Parasites were a big part of Wessker's plan to bring Umbrella back. Personally, I don't care if they are Zombies or crazy Spanish speaking wackos. As long as the game is as good as RE4, I'm sold.

As for bad ports on the Wii, I feel you. However, RE4 Wii Edition was probably the best Wii port yet and the best version of the game. So IF Capcom decides to port RE5 to the Wii, I'm sure it will be great. The only thing that would be lacking a bit would be the graphics, but RE4 still looks great and you know the Wii can do more so I'm not worried about that.

By the way, did you check out the actual in-game screenshot of Killzone 2?

Yeah I saw it this morning, I wasn't too impressed. Another FPS....

I was kinda shocked when I saw that first in-game screen. Sony has been hyping that game since they played that controversial footage back in E3 2005. But now, the game looks pretty worse than Resistance: Fall of Man, and the game looked as if it was supposed to break boundaries in terms of graphics.

Granted, it's only one screenshot, but I have a feeling people's expectations are going to be shot down horribly once the game is in full view.

Well Sony could only go down from that first trailer. They should have never have put so much hype and then not be able to deliver.

I love this part of the article.

You know, because the Xbox 360 and PS3 have already proved themselves to be Resident Evil selling machines. You can't make the argument that old Playstation and Xbox units have sold Resident Evils because Nintendo's last sytem sold a crapload of RE games. What a cop-out.

If they don't release RE:5 for the Wii, they are just dumb. I have all three of the next-gen systems (XBox360, PS3, & Wii)... and I have NEVER in my life enjoyed a Resident Evil game as much as I did Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition.

Aiming with the wii remote & nunchuk was brilliant and involved you much more into the game and it's story line.

I'd say graphically speaking, XBox 360 is my fav system of the three..... but for gameplay value of a Resident Evil game, (as long as the controls are on target like RE:4 Wii Edition was), the Wii is unbelievably fun.

I'm buying it for the Wii if they make it available, as I'm sure any other person who has played RE:4 Wii Edition will as well. I was never a major (but partial) Resident Evil game fan, until Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition. BE SMART, CAPCOM... make it for the Wii!

I agree 100%. If Capcom wants to rake in the money, they need to make RE5 for the Wii. Just look at what Rockstar is doing, they seem like the biggest Wii fans now. Who would have thought?

NO personaly I dont want to see a Downgraded Version of any RE game and the gameplay of RE4 for the old RE is absurd...

Old RE Style is the best RE4 was great but don't forget what made them what they are today as Classics.

Besides RE4 might have been succesfull but RE UC isnt doing well last i heard around the net that it isnt such a great game although aint stopping die hard fans for the story.

PS when the fuck is RE UC coming to EU terorories??

Hey Ouija-san remember me?,I Walter from Capcom forums(though I recently got banned). You couldn't be more WRONG!,RE5 would look fantastic on the wii,in addition to far superior controls. You may argue that the wii couldn't handle the enemy numbers or level sizes:also wrong!,(mecenaries mode?)and let's not forget RE4 was just a port,so it didn't use the wii's full power,so RE5 is more than possible on the wii.

imagine Resident Evil 5 pushing wii to its limits in graphics, it will look very close to the x360 version, and that has slightly worse graphics than ps3. With RE4 wii edition selling a little more than REUC, it seems to be a definate yes for a wii version of RE5. Its just a matter of when. Maybe 2 months after the original release?

I hope they remake re 2 and 3 but with the same type of camera angles.
