Resident Evil 5 Wii: Simon Jeffery thinks it's coming

The key quote from Simon Jeffery (President of Sega of America) when talking about hardcore gaming on the Wii is: "Resident Evil 5 (he pauses and thinks for a moment) when that happens on the Wii it's going to help." He then goes on to talk about Madworld.

How much faith can you have in a quote like this? It's difficult to say since he is from Sega and how much could he actually know about RE5 coming to the Wii? The other side of the coin is that Dead Rising was just announced for the Wii after Capcom said that it would be impossible to port the game over. I don't need to tell you that RE5 looks almost exactly the same as RE4 just in HD with better textures/lighting and Africa as the backdrop. If you've seen the E3 demo preview of the game, you'll see that it still has the same animations for the enemies and even for the main characters you control. It looks the same, pure and simple.

I'd say that Capcom would have an even easier time porting over Resident Evil 5 to the Wii than porting over Dead Rising; but since they are changing Dead Rising a bit to suite the Wii, why can't they do the same with RE5 if they need to?

I'm betting we'll see Resident Evil 5 Wii Edition about 8-10 months after the release of the game on Xbox 360 and PS3. Dead Rising says yes and profit says yes also.....

*UPDATE*

Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer/VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development of Capcom had this to say when asked about the Resident Evil 5 Wii slip up:

"Simon's a friend of mine... but I don't think I've spoken to him about anything like that. Sealed

No comment beyond that really. Interesting clip that slip aside though. Simon's a really smart guy. I have a lot of respect for his work at Sega and his prior work at Lucasarts."

Hey guys I don't know about you but that is looking like a very strong hint that RE5 is in development for the Wii. That is definitely not a denial, and usually when Sven talks like that it means something is happening concerning that subject (for the Wii in this case) and he can't say anymore about it or it will interfere with Capcom's future plans. If Resident Evil 5 was announced right now for the Wii, how many sales would that take away from the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions which are almost finished? From a business standpoint I can understand if Capcom plays it quiet until after those versions are released, and then they may announce RE5 for the Wii.

There's a light at the end of the tunnel it seems....

HERES SOMETHING ID LIKE TO POINT OUT...

resident evil 5 is being hailed as dam good looking one of the best out there, yet every single gamecube fan can clearly see that its res evil 4.5
with some high resolution slapped on......

IF THAT DOESN'T PROVE HOW DAM POWERFUL GAMECUBE ACTUALLY WAS THEN TEL ME OTHERWISE
the videos show the same cam the same geometry the same A.I the same animations just with tarted up looks and new menu modes....

this game doesn't prove how powerful ps3 x360 are if anything wen you apply some thought it proves that wii can hold its own as wiis little brother cube HAS ALLREADY RAN A GAME ALLMOST AS GOOD LOOKING....

its clear wii can run this game at polished 480p and have full wii controls as well this needs to happen...

it doesnt take much brian power to realize that res evil 5 on ps3/x360 controls is going backwards not forwards

and a wii version would kick all ass

I can't really tell if he's confusing RE5 with Dead Rising, but if RE5 is gonna hit the wii, that's the news we wanna have. I see no problem with it. Just imagine a standard definition version of the game.

I wonder if there is more proof or evidence somewhere that further validates this.

Didn't seem like a slip of the tongue to me. But apparently the same folks who did the interview (Kotaku?) also asked Fils-Aime about this and he replied "not yet." They also asked some high up rep about this and he replied "Have you SEEN RE5?" Which can be interpreted a few different ways. 1) No way is it possible on the Wii 2) Of course we can do it on the Wii.

#2 may be stretching it, but we haven't had any claims to the contrary of Sega's chairmans' remarks. I agree with the anonymous' above, Everything about RE5 just looks like RE4 just in higher res and in HD. The cube doesn't get the credit it deserves in the horsepower discussion. And Wii being 2-3 times more powerful really is substantial. Conduit and the new CoD look to start pushing the Wii. Is the DS to PSP the equivalent to Wii to PS360?

I think it's a done deal. The gaming industry is pretty close knit. Graphics guys and programmers stay in touch for networking purposes as the industry is based on a "per project basis." They pretty much know each other...for CAPCOM to announce Dead Rising (and release bad ass screens!) for the Wii, it's just a matter of time that we get an official announcement concerning RE5. CAPCOM is done "testing the waters" with RE4 Wii Edition & REUC. Dead Rising proves that. Graphically, I think REUC proved that the Wii can handle RE5 as well - while GC RE4 proved itself with the over-the shoulder play mechanics. Which turns out to be tailor-made for the Wii remote!
RE5 for the Wii will be more immersive than PS3/360 for that same reason anyway! CAPCOM knows this.
Now with the Wii remote being improved with the Motion-Plus, I think 2009 will be the year for the Wii to shine for hardcore gamers that want FPS(w/ accuracy), mature content, and amazing graphics that make you say "WOW!" The wii can handle RE5. Dave's right - its basically a version of the RE4 engine - but in HD.

There is a RE4 & RE5 comparison video over on Gametrailers, I suggest all you folks check it out, I think the video speaks for itself. To think developers and Wii haters alike try to dismiss the Wii's capabilities, is quite ridiculous. Wii can handle this game.

On another note, I've been a fan of Videogames since the 80's. And I will be the first to tell someone that the jump in graphics this gen from last gen is not as significant as ppl will have you believe. The jump from the SNES to N64 was way more significant, and the N64 to Cube was also significant but not as revolutionary. But this Current gen, save for the Wii, is nothing but HD upgrades to an ongoing cycle that in my view was/is becoming stale. I'm no fanboy, But I know imitators (M$) and Duplicators (Sony) when I see them. Is it no wonder motion sensing control is looking to be implemented into their machines? I'll put it like this, I'm no fan of Kobe Bryant or Lebron James, but they definitely got skills. But They are in no way better than my main man Michael Jordan. He came first and did it better. Hope u guys get my analogy.
There seems to be a civil war within the gaming industry right now, those wanting things to stay the same, at the expense of the entire industry, and those recognizing the need for a "change" (Isn't that a popular word these days). The last thing I'll say in my little rant, is the idea of "casual and core." Which in my view is "bull shit" and more "bull shit" made up by disgruntled third parties and sour fanboys to rain on Wii's parade. Wii is following the cycle of the DS which if history serves me correctly, many of the same things were said about it as well. "Third party games don't sell", "DS is a fad" If These two machines are considered fads I'd much rather be a "fad" than a "niche" Please can we stop hearing about nintendo's doom after E3? E3 as we used to know and love it is dead. and has been dead for 2 yrs now, let it go.
Metal D, congrads on finding a woman who would take pictures of you with two other women! Lucky dog (lol)
