Metroid Other M - debut trailer

Looks awesome. It makes you wonder what Retro Studios has cooking under the hood if Team Ninja have taken over the Metroid Franchise (for now).

  3. this is ver cool

but it has to be said...ps3 motion controller tech demo was awesome.

360 "eye toy" demonstration was extremely cool. I am thinking nintendo might lose the unique qualities that the wii owned.

    This is not good. =(

  4. I wanted a Zelda trailer to be shown at E3 all I got was one picture. I mean what the hell Nintendo. Looking at the picture though the child looks like the queen of faires that appered in Wind Waker and Link looks older and has no sword.

  5. Oddly, since I missed the Ninty conference due to being on a plane I played Shadow Complex (XBLA game from the Gears of War team) and I loved it. I wanted it on Wii really badly as it's a 2D Metroid style game with great 3D visuals (think New Super Mario but gorgeous) and I was envious.

Later in the day I saw the Metroid trailer and was blown away at it's awesomeness. I can only hope this game plays in 2D but looks 3D because that would be awesome. It's hard to tell from the trailer.

At their E3 press conferences, both Sony and Microsoft did what we all actually expected them to do at last year's show: Reveal their motion control "solutions" to Nintendo's Wii. However, according to worldwide President Satoru Iwata, Nintendo had tried what both of their competitors are planning to use, and rejected them.

Speaking to the Financial Times, Iwata explained that they had at one time attempted to make use of camera-based interfaces for motion control, but found that the accelerometers they eventually went with yielded better results.

Of course, that's not to say it won't work. "Until they say when they're releasing it, how much it costs and what software it comes with, we won't know whether that is the route we should have taken," Iwata said, adding "However . . . I think they couldn't choose to release exactly the same thing."

But does it bother him at all that Sony and Microsoft appear to be trying to take a slice of Nintendo's pie? Actually, the Times reports, he's happy that the innovation which Nintendo brought to the marketplace and made Wii a hit is catching on and becoming an industry standard.

"Companies whose people said that motion-sensing wouldn't work are now proposing motion sensors," he said.

fact ps3 motion is 7mm square accurate = lose and craapp

fact 2 camera motion will always be laggy

fact 3 ps3 motion has no perfect aim mouse/pointer

fact 4 traditional controls combined with mouse pointer and motion make core gaming sense ]

motion cams do not non analog stick remotes with gay looking orbs do not make sense

natal no controls at all so again like ps3 motion not suited to FPS/FPA/RTS/RTA/ETC CORE IN GAME GAME PLAY

natal offers no feed back like rumble or immersion speaker and no ability to aim perfectly and fast and fire a weapon its a casual wave fest of shhiitt as is ps3 motion

CAMERA MOTION IS SHIT AND DOES IT SINK IN THAT SONY AND MICRSOFT CANNOT GET ROUND NINTENDOS PATENTS SO RELY ON CRAPPY CAM MOTION

WII HAS ADDITIONAL CAM MOTION COMING FROM 3RD PARTYS

    GAME OVER SONY GAMEOVER XBOX

ill post a few more metal dave can show them or not there from other blogs

  7. MICROSOFT DOESN'T HAVE REAL 3D ETHER ITS JUST EYE TOY ADVANCE ITS IMPOSABLE TO DO FAST PERFECT FPS ETC VIA NATAL

ITS IMPOSABLE TO MIX NATAL WITH A ANALOG STICK

AND ITS IMPOSABLE TO GET RUMBLE OR SOUND FEED BACK IN UR HANDS WITH NATAL

SONY AND MICROSOFT CLEARLY CANNOT COMPETE

natal has no way of knowing your in hand physics like wii motion plus and aiming perfectly and quickly again is imposable it can track ur arm bit it cannot read the full 1to1 physics and movement of ur hands only wiimote nunchuck and far more so wii motion plus can do that

wavey wavey ps3 and wavey wavey natal

simply canot match 1to1 perfect motion wii motion plus

nether can match wiis ir 3d poiner mouse

and nether conbine motion with analog and sound feed back and rumble paks

    THERE FOR THERE WEAKER

SONY CONFIRMED NO POINTER MOUSE NO GYRO 3D JUST ACCELORSENSERS THAT READ TO A MAXIMUM OF 7MM SQUARE 3D SPACE

WIIMOTE AND NUNCHUCK ARE MUCH MUCH TIGHTER THAN THAT AND WIIMOTES AIM POINTER/MOUSE IS A GOOD 1,2MM PERFECT ALSO

WII-MOTION-PLUS IS 1TO1 MOVEMENT AND PHYSICS AND SPEED PERFECT

so know ask ur self again wahaz

WHO ARE SONY AND MICROSOFT TRYING TO KID

    IMITATION IS SUICIDE

    AND

MIMICRY THE ACTION OF THE UNTALENTED AKA SONY AND MICROSOFT

  8. Geez Louise. Turn off the caps lock for once an a while. I think we can get most of your points without having to read your need to capitalize every sentence to emphasize your argument. This makes you look too much like a raving lunatic. With that said, I agree with you.

Anyway, about Natal, I don't think Nintendo has anything to worry about Microsoft's solution to the Wii-motes. First off, it's being released late into the 360's lifespan and it's obvious Microsoft is not planning to use it as a core controller. It's not even being bundled with the Xbox 360 at the risk of raising costs. Which means that most people won't even consider owning it, and you know what that means. The less people own it, the less companies will be interested in making games for it. Even if Natal is proven to be more advanced than the Wii-mote, it will be too late as Nintendo will be talking about their next-gen console, which will most likely have a more intuitive controller than the Natal. The demos at E3 don't prove much and it's obvious most people won't buy into Peter Molyneux's ambitious demo, as he's notorious for delivering a fraction of what he promises.

Second, a peripheral as "advanced" as Natal would require a hefty amount of programming for developers to understand and work. Some will do it, but others can only bring shoddy effort, making this more of a gimmick than the Wii-mote. We don't know what extent developers are willing to take advantage of the Natal. If they don't, it will be one big waste of expensive gimmick, moreso than the Wii. Going back to Molyneux's Milo, that could be all scripted in which players can only input certain emotions and movements to get the game to progress. I highly doubt I can tell the kid to run into that tree.

In the end, while Natal may have a potential to be great, as I am looking forward to it, Xbox 360-owners will be sticking to their traditional controllers. A device like that seems too expensive and costly for any casual gamer to own, so I don't think Microsoft will make much of a dent in Nintendo's stronghold on the casual market. Hell, Natal looks like it was built with the hardcore gaming mindset with all that ambition and technological advancements to it.

  9. if Microsoft and Sony are not fully committed to motion as there core controller and standard pads to go retro/classic like Nintendo

THEN WHOS BEING CASUAL HAS TO BE THE QUESTION

I WANT PRECISION AIM AND 3D MOTION IN MY CORE GAMES

ill stick to Nintendo THANKS lol

fps with dualshock or xpad no thanks ill wii motion plus and precision aim via ir mouse pointer

clearly its Sony and Microsoft going casual not Nintendo
