First Nights Wii screens

Just in case any of you missed this. Nights is looking very good on the Wii and it has been confirmed that it has a 2 player mode and online functions. Even though the original creator is not working on the sequel, I'm confident that this will be a very good game. Keep and eye on this one.

Nintendo "mods" the Wii's Motherboard to stop Modchip functions

It seems Nintendo has gone and changed and made some modifications to the Wii's Motherboard to fight against the growing number of modchips being made for the Wii from hackers nice enough to make them for us. If you currently own a Wii, then this won't effect anything for you from modding your Wii. Future buyers should take notice though. Nintendo has always been really quick to stop any kind of piracy on their systems so this was to be expected.

*Rumor* No Friend codes now?

This is a scan from an unknown magazine at this time. It says that the Pokemon Battle Revolution will not have Friend codes and that Square Enix would like to put their own online systems on the Wii.

I don't know what to believe now.....

Playstation 3 losing exclusives=more Wii development?

Our good friend Falafelkid has broke down the recent announcement that Devil May Cry 4 and the rumor that Microsoft will buy Take-Two studios soon. Here is a portion of his post:

"Allow me to spell the ramifications out for you. Such a buyout would lead to Microsoft adding Rockstar to their First Party list and the ´Grand Theft Auto´ series becoming Xbox360 exclusive... forever.Undoubtedly,

Microsoft would want to buy them. But can they afford to? The entire Xbox venture has
cost them billions with little in return. And the last studio acquisitions were not exactly good investments for the company, I should add.

Buying Rare was, in hindsight, a mistake. The studio cost Microsoft almost half a billion US dollars
, graced the console with a number of overhyped titles (two of which had been ported twice in their development cycle, to be fair to Rare) and the buyout started a huge exodus of employees which recently culminated in the company founder's leaving.

This looks so good I might have to buy this and install this one myself. Black is nice but chrome is really appealing to me.

How about you?

The World loves the Wii

"For release it did with a massive bang, screaming up the sales charts and selling out instantly, enticing entire families to play together, with some of those family members properly playing a games console for the first time and truly loving it.

Then we got the sales figures, and they told an incredible story: Nintendo was selling every console they could get into the marketplace, a phenomenon that has continued to this day. While the PS2 continues to sell in enormous numbers, even today, in terms of next-gen console sales in November, the Wii came second, according to NPD, selling 476,000 units compared to Xbox 360’s 511,000 units and only 197,000 for the PS3, although it was hampered by a much lower availability than the Wii.

When January’s figures rolled around, the Wii was firmly on top – in a month that traditionally sees sales figures go down as consumers digested their Christmas and holiday season purchases and accompanying credit card bills. But February proved that the Wii was no one hit wonder with 335,000 units sold, outselling the Xbox 360 and PS3 yet again."

The Wii is a phenomenal success across the globe. The only question on everone's minds is for how long? Well I would say the best is yet to come for the Wii in terms of games and graphics; and more importantly, how developers use the Wii remote in even more innovative ways to control games. The future is very bright indeed.

Nintendo and Gamespy to provide Wii online gaming

"Leader in Multiplayer Technology Enables Exclusive Community

Functionality for Nintendo’s Hit ConsoleLOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GameSpy, a unit of Fox Interactive Media, announced today that it will provide multiplayer technology to game publishers developing titles for Nintendo’s Wii™ video game system. As part of an ongoing partnership with Nintendo, GameSpy has developed middleware technology to enable Wii titles to offer community features, such as friend rosters, advanced matchmaking capabilities and comprehensive rankings data.

“This partnership will expand our wireless community of players on Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “Millions of Nintendo DS users have already logged on using GameSpy’s technology, and now Wii owners will be able to do the same in a fun and easy-to-use environment.”“Nintendo has been an invaluable partner and we look forward to expanding our relationship with them in the future,” said Jamie Berger, Senior Vice President of Consumer Products and Technology for IGN Entertainment. “Our goal is to extend our ground-breaking work on the Nintendo DS to provide Wii users with the social, community and multiplayer tools that we believe will expand the online gaming experience to the mass market.”Pokémon® Battle Revolution, the first Wii game to utilize the technology, launches on June 25, with multiplayer features similar to those leveraging GameSpy technology in several Nintendo DS titles.

Prior to this development agreement for Wii, GameSpy and Nintendo brought gamers wireless community options for Nintendo DS™. The service provided an innovative network for portable video games, allowing people around the world to link easily and wirelessly to play games. The partnership represented GameSpy’s first foray into portable games."

They talk about comunity a lot in that press release, could that mean that the Wii online service is going to be more in-depth than the DS?

*Rumor* Harry Potter Wii to use Mic and gestures to cast spells

Here is one of the latest rumors to come out of GDC:

"The real NDA breaking rumor has EA working on a Harry Potter game using the mic in conjunction with gestures to cast spells. Now that's the type of Wii title we're talking about! "Wingardium Leviosah" FTW! Sadly, those who attended the EA Wii event on Wednesday signed NDAs -- so there's a lot of people out there sitting on information they can't confirm, deny or share with their readers."

This would be pretty nice to use with a game like Harry Potter. Nintendogs worked with voice command for the DS, I would imagine that a game like this would work the same if not better. We'll see if this rumor turns out true.

More Blazing Angels Wii screens

Wii Dream Team formed for 'Project O'

"The latest issue of Famitsu magazine has revealed that Marvelous Interactive (Harvest Moon, Rune Factory, Luminous Arc), CING (Another Code, Hotel Dusk) and Townfactory are all working together on a new project that will be released on Nintendo's Wii. At present it is scheduled for a 2008 release and is simply titled 'Project O', being classed as a new genre along the lines of SimEarth."

Along the lines of SimEarth eh? Could this some kind of real time RPG/MMO type game only with giving you the ability to grow and make objects how you want them? Sounds very interesting, more as it breaks.

Mario Party 8 delayed until Summer

Mario Party 8 has been delayed until Q2 2007 by Nintendo's official site. No reason was given just a quiet change from March '07 to quarter 2 which would be summer time here in the states. Maybe Nintendo is giving Third Parties more breathing room. Games like Medal of Honor, The Godfather and Mortal Kombat would benefit from this kind of delay seeing that the Mario Party series has always sold extremely well no matter how much of the same old thing the games always seem to be. Here's hoping #8 will put some fresh life into the series.

My SSX Blur review

SSX Blur is one of the best games out on the Wii so far and I'm not just saying that. This is not a "Red Steel" type of game that you will either hate or like as others have been saying. In my opinion this game is a finely crafted piece of gaming goodness. EA has gone the extra mile in making the game rewarding, fun and difficult all at the same time. It will have you coming back for more and you will be finding yourself playing this game for hours on end without even knowing it.

The levels are comprised of some old (but still good) areas to snowboard and trick your way down and some new ones. Personally the racing aspect is my least favorite part since you just have to speed your way through the level and not really have to concentrate on tricking. It is fun but not as much fun as doing the tricks and especially the immensely enjoyable Uber Tricks. The game has literally a ton of unlockable content and will keep you playing for hours just to see what you can unlock next. The unlockables range from new characters, new boards, character art and more.

The control for this game has been debated across multiple forums and reviews across the Internet and gaming magazines. This game does require you to learn how to play from scratch. However, I will not mark off points for this game just because there is a learning curve. This is a totally new way to play SSX with the Wii remote and Nunchuck and it works perfectly fine and smooth after patience and practice. Within the first day of owning this title I was performing spins, back flips, grabs and the all important Uber Tricks. The Uber Tricks are what makes the game one of the best snowboarding games you play in a while. Are they hard to perform? At first, yes they are. These tricks are special and you are supposed to be good at the game in order to perform them, its not going to just give the trick to you by you "kinda" making the right gestures with your Wii remote. You will need to get the correct amount of air and then you will also have to perform the trick at the right speed (which you will get a feel for) and make sure you push and hold the A button before you start making the gesture. This is a common mistake in that some have started making the gesture a split second before holding the A button thus making the Uber Trick not work. Also, you will need to make big sweeping type gestures with the Wii remote for the game to recognize what trick you are trying to do. Once you master this system of doing the Uber Tricks, it will open up the entire game to you and you will be the king of the snowhill. You will also not want to stop playing this game once you master the controls.

TIP: Go to one of the Half Pipes and instead of choosing "Continue" choose "Cancel" what this will do is cancel the timed run for the Half Pipe and give you an infinite amount of time to practice Uber Tricks and landing (just double tap the A button for a quick landing). This will make you a pro in no time. You can also practice the Uber Tricks in the option menu to get a good feel for them. Try them for a bit but I suggest going right to the Half Pipe for true practice.

This game has a very good soundtrack only topped by SSX3. Some tracks stand out more than others but as a whole the music is great and fits the action perfectly. The music helps the sense of awe you get when you perform the Uber Tricks as it will change and pull back for great effect.

The graphics are some of the best seen on the Wii yet. Lense flare and Bloom abound all over the place on the characters and levels. The particle system, while subdued, is great too and lights up the screen when it is being used. The snow and weather effects are naturally a star in the show as well with snow covering the riders and blizzards blowing through the air. The entire package is extremely clean and really there is no "fault" you can really see with the look of the game. The framerate drops from 60 fps to 30 fps quite a bit throughout the game, it is noticeable but never hurts game play and never gives you the sense that the game is "chugging along". For the most part the game runs fine and you really shouldn't have a problem with the framerate changes.

In the end, this game is all about quality and fun. Getting that rush you feel while performing the Uber Tricks with the new Wii-only controls is not an experience to be missed. I highly recommend this and in my opinion it is the best thing since Zelda on the Wii since launch day. Buy it, practice it and enjoy the amazing new way to play SSX.

Blazing Angels Wii screens

Looks very good, but it also looks very much like the 360 and PS3 versions of the game. They were just added a little while ago on Gamespot for the Wii version. I guess we'll have to wait and see if the game actually lives up to the look shown here.
